Music and Its Necessity in the Educational Curriculum

Joel Iwataki
As science, literature, arts, and sports are compulsory subjects in high school, teachers should also ponder on music which is essential for a human brain. Music not just enhance the creativity of a child but it also relieves stress and tension. When a child is too bored with studying physics, mathematics, and chemistry, music increases the focus and concentration. Music is always referred to as a cultural activity and exhibits a sense of unity within people of the same culture. Moreover, music is the best possible way for the upcoming talent to show up. Who knows in the class of 40 students, the future of some students ends up being a pop singer or an accomplished music composer. In this way, a student who wants to be a singer might not get distracted form right path and would be given a proper guideline to pursue music as a career.

Improves learning process:

A student may not know what he was taught yesterday but definitely, he is going to remember a song he just heard last night. Not just this, some students have also learned the lyrics by heart and try to imitate the voices of their favorite singer. The area of the brain related to analyzing pitches is 25 percent larger in musicians than non-musicians. And children who study music do better at academics as well.

Enhances creativity:

Including music activities on a regular basis during school time can also help encourage creativity and teamwork. Music has the quality to foster creativity in the lives of children. Music and other arts enable our students to build self-confidence through their ability to develop creativity and to find their freedom of expression.

Enriches a person for life:

Lastly, music enriches a person for life. By bringing music to the classrooms, schools are doing an important job by encouraging children to sing or play an instrument, thereby giving them a gift which will last for a lifetime. Students of music are better suited to face the world once they leave school. Moreover, music students tend to score better on tests, have better communication skills, and are better-disciplined students.

Adds up to self-worth:

Researchers studying the benefits of music feel that music education can impart feelings of self-esteem and self-confidence, and provide a sense of achievement. Students who participate in music programs have improved levels of confidence than those who don’t.
